Herpes transmission??

I had oral sex with a girl who had a cold sore about about a month ago, but was all healed up when we messed around. I’m 18 and male. I know it’s possible to contract genital herpes this way, but what are the chances? Slimmer than if she had a cold sore right? I read that the virus tends to go dormant for a while after an outbreak and doesn’t attack again until later? I’m showing no symptoms by the way but it’s only been about 3 days. Thanks for serious answers.

It’s possible for you to get it, yes the chances are slimmer than if she had a sore at the time. She COULD have had asymptomatic viral shedding, which is when the virus is able to be transmitted but it isn’t causing symptoms. In summary, you could have gotten it, but the chances are slim. If it’s HSV-1, it won’t cause recurrent genital herpes that requires daily medication, because that is not the “preferred” location for HSV-1. It could cause an outbreak, and perhaps a recurrence, but it’s not as bad as having HSV-2 genitally.

There’s no point worrying about it! Either you get an outbreak now, or later, or not at all. Probably not at all. Can’t do anything about it now. Be safe in your future practices to avoid spreading it in case you do have it.
